Admission Policy

At Sunbeam Senior Secondary School (CBSE), we believe that forging a partnership between the School, the Parents, and the child is the most effective means to ensure a successful, rewarding, and enriching Educational experience for every Student under our care. By choosing Sunbeam as a place to learn, parents provide their children with the opportunity to be positively engaged in a high-quality Educational experience in a world-class facility, thus enabling them to be “future-ready” for the opportunities and challenges that lie beyond Sunbeam. Sunbeam is dedicated to fulfilling every admitted Child’s Educational and developmental needs, in a safe and caring environment, conducive to learning and teaching and aims to create responsible, global citizens who show understanding, compassion and acceptance of the differences in the world.

The purpose of our admissions process is to assemble a community of learners who will embrace the Ethos of the School, represent a range of interests and abilities, and thrive within our School environment and culture. At Sunbeam learning is an ongoing process that builds on prior experiences, transforms understanding, and develops skills. It happens when students are engaged, challenged, and reflective throughout the process. Learning at Sunbeam is inquiry-based, can be an independent and collaborative process, and happens when students are empowered and inspired to make a difference in their world and beyond whilst supporting the well-being of the entire learning community. The admissions program is overseen by the Admissions Team at Sunbeam in close consultation with the Senior Leadership Team and other designated members of the school’s faculty.

Admissions criteria:

We believe that admission to Sunbeam(CBSE) is one of the “best fit” for students, parents and the school. Parents need to make an informed choice as to whether Sunbeam’s journey matches what they are looking for in an educational experience and as a School we consider the extent to which the needs and priorities of prospective students and their families are a good fit with the school’s mission, vision, philosophy, and the academic programs on offer. Sunbeam values applicants who demonstrate the flexibility and curiosity that enables them to appreciate not only their many differences but also their common humanity. Applicants need to be committed to a diverse community that promotes a culture of learning, appreciation and understanding. Each member of Sunbeam community is expected to treat everyone with care and respect and to value and treasure our differences. From Nursery to Grade 5, there is open admission for students, as local government law stipulates that admission will be based solely on seat availability. From Grade 6 to 10 (IB MYP) and Grade 11 and 12 (IB DP), prospective students are considered for admission on the basis of their prior academic performance and future academic potential, their character, and their interests. The results of an online assessment and personal interview are also taken into consideration when establishing a “best fit”.

Sunbeam recognizes and respects the dignity of each individual regardless of age, culture, religion, colour, ethnicity, race, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, language, disability, economic status, creed, marital status, genetics, or any other factor.

Sunbeam values Student diversity and respects individual learning differences and strives to overcome barriers and use a gained understanding to care for each other; to cooperate for the common good. To that end, the school will support, to the best of its ability and within staffing/resourcing constraints, those students who have special learning needs, including those who are English language learners.

During the Admission process, Sunbeam requires previous School records where applicable, along with any psychological Educational assessments, and any other records that indicate the learning support needs of prospective Students. In reviewing these documents the school will be able to advise whether an Education that meets the needs of the applicant can be provided, what type of learning support may need to be in place, and at what level the student will be able to access the curriculum. Parents may indicate a choice of campus while applying for admission. While these preferences are taken into consideration, the final decision lies with the school and is dependent on various factors like the availability of seats, where the family resides, and whether any siblings are already enrolled. In certain instances, a student may wish to transfer from one campus to the other. In such circumstances, the decision will be taken on a case-by-case basis and will be dependent upon factors such as subject choice, availability of seats and residential address.

The admissions policy will be reviewed every two years for additions and modifications and will involve the active participation of the Sunbeam Admissions Team and the Senior Leadership Team.
